Policroma and Araldica: new designer surfaces for CEDIT
Lo studio creativo di CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia sulle superfici da rivestimento prosegue all’insegna di nuove collezioni d’autore, in grande formato (fino a 120x240cm) e dall’alta componente decorativa.
From 2016 to today, eleven different collections have been presented by CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia, including the Lapis ceramic vase, designed in 1968 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. The Policroma by Cristina Celestino and Araldica by Federico Pepe series were new additions at the last Salone del Mobile.
Policroma incorporates both the stylistic canons of classicism and an expressive code more in line with modern taste. The motifs are inspired by two separate sources: the exquisite vein texture of some specific, rare metamorphic rocks and the sophisticated colours of Marmorino plaster.
“CEDIT's technological ability to interpret other materials allowed me to investigate the world of marble and Marmorino plaster. I decided to make it quite clear that I was imitating these materials, both by using frames and by mixing marble and Marmorino plaster in the same slab, creating interaction between them with concave/convex patterns.” Cristina Celestino
Araldica is inspired by the traditional marbled papers used mainly in book-binding, reinterpreted by the designer to create original visual textures which, applied to large ceramic wall covering slabs, become a hypnotic, fascinating, variegated mix of colour.
“The opportunity to work on glossy slabs enabled me to uproot the idea of marbled paper from its identity as paper: unlike the matt variant, this finish offers an incredible depth, as patterns almost appear three-dimensional on the surface. Working with CEDIT gave me great scope to explore all this”.
